The Registry

I once saw a post somewhere on Instagram that begged the question of things you can’t mom without. That made me think of my momming journey thus far and the things I know I couldn’t mom without. So today’s post will be a little different than former posts. I’ve compiled a list of things that have become so vital to me as I parent my little.

  1. Bassinet- What I loved most about having a bassinet is the fact that it allowed for bedside sleeping during months one through six-ish. The first few months of being a mom were rough primarily because the kid would NOT sleep. Once he got into thw routine, however, it was as simple as rolling over and putting the pacifier back in his mouth when he stirred.

  2. Humidifier- Unfortunately, my son had had three colds before eceb turning six months. To say the least, it was PETRIFYING. As a newborn, there isn’t much that can be done about a cold besides using a humidifier. Each time he has gotten sick, I’ve used the humidifier at bedtime to help clear up his congestion. The music it plays is also very calming.

  3. Swaddle- THIS IS THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO ME. When I was at my peak burned out of exhaustion, I remembered the tried and true way my older cousin got all of her girls to sleep without fuss and that was the swaddle. I originally thought that my son didn’t like the swaddle but I was wrong. I simply had to tale control and swaddle him tighter. The routine easily became: one last bottle, burp, swaddle, dim the lights, play calming music and rock him to sleep. It worked like magic every time…until he outgrew it. The cutest part of swaddling was the way he’d wake up during the unswaddling in the morning. He had the cutest little morning stretch.

  4. Even Flo Travel System- I knew that I always wanted a light weight stroller that wasn’t a hassle to take out and navigate. This is it!! It comes with the stroller base, car seat base, car seat and additional stroller attachment. One of my mommy friends raved about it before I had the opportunity to put it to use and I am now doing the same! The convenience in being able to un-click the carseat from the car and click it into the stroller is everything! Additionally, taking down & putting up the stroller base takes less than 30 seconds. The stroller attachment has been so good to us because I strap him in for long walks to and through the park and he has enough space to relax and lean forward and look out. The attachment is also adjustable so it can lay flat like a basinnet and sit on an incline or straight up (which I never do). Lastly, the car seat and stroller attachment can be adjusted to face you as you push or away from you.

  5. Baby Brezza Food Maker- I will FOREVER reference this as one of the best baby shower gifts I received. I did not know such a thing existed until it was in my hands. Given that I’m particular about the food that I put in my body, I’m even more careful about what goes in my son’s. This food maker allows me to purée whole organic foods for my baby, expanding his palette with each new food that I introduce.

  6. Bliss Gripe Water- From about months one and a half to four my son had theee worst colic! He would screech extremely loudly, tense up his 8lb body and the tears would flow. It pained me to know that I really could not do much to alleviate him, until I was introduced to gripe water. It works like a magical potion. Minutes after, I would inject the syringe full into his mouth or after he would drink a dose of it with his milk, his pain subsided. This is one of those things I was sure to never leave home without. The only downside of it for me was that when I gave it to him from the syringe, he would drink it so quickly that he choked on it frequently. That was very scary and caused me to mix it in with his milk.

  7. Walker- I remember the first day I sat my baby in the walker, he was so overcome with excitement at this new contraption that he had absolutely no idea what to do first. The small toy attachments provide literal on-the-go entertainment. The walker strengthens his legs and gives him autonomy that keeps him in my fridge and me on my toes.

  8. Glass Baby Food Storage Containers- I have, long, recognized the importance of storing my own food in glass containers as opposed to plastic. It took a little time for this to click for me, but I came to the conclusion that storing my child’s food should be no different. I absolutely adore these little glass containers that make it easy for me to prep 12 mini-meals that are organic for my baby and store them in the freezer.

  9. Ubbi Diaper Pail- I had no idea how foul baby diapers smelled! I thought baby poop was a little bit more forgiving than adult’s. That was a lie and I am so grateful that this pail was on my registry. It conceals the scent of the dirty diapers so well that I forget to change the garbage frequently than I’d like to admit.

  10. Changing Table- I never thought a changing table was necessary. I figured it would be convenient to simply change my baby wherever I was: on the bed; on the couch; on my lap. This seemed like a sound idea until my baby sprayed my bed one too many times while he was getting changed. Within his first two and half weeks of life, I ordered a changing table that matched his crib and that is certainly an investment that I am grateful for. He ended up loving to lay there more than the bed.

As my little chocolate drop grows, so does this list. This will certainly be continued as he ventures out of infancy and into toddlerdom.
